Connor and Nymph Madilen

in reading TWILIGHT... AGAIN!!!

Madilen ran through the forest, chasing after a small rabbit. “Come on you stupid animal. I’m ready to eat.” She grabbed the small animal by its neck, at last, and squeezed. It squirmed for a few seconds, and then went still. “Poor animal,” she heard a voice say. She looked around and saw a civilian. She stood up, and grimaced. Her leg was bleeding.

“Get out of my forest.” The kid looked at her with grey eyes. He looked at the rabbit, and then back at her. “Savage,” he whispered. She grabbed his neck. “I am not one of them. My mother maybe, but not me.” She let go. He took a deep breath, and followed her. She ran swiftly, and not making a sound.

He checked his watch. Fifteen minutes. He’d been running for fifteen minutes. The girl stopped at a roughly built lean-to, and went in. He slowly crept under the window and heard voices. “You killed an animal of the forest Madilen. The gods will come for you.” Madilen snorted. “Mica shut up. There are no gods with a z. Just God. And besides, I was hungry.” Mica snorted. “There is a listener among us.” The boy, whose name was Connor, stiffened.

They meant him. The girl- Madilen- looked out, and straight at him. “You?” He sat up and smiled. Crap, he thought. I’ve been caught. And by a girl. The girls face softened. “Of course I’m a girl, silly. I read minds too. Come in and meet Mica.” Connor stood up and walked in.

Mica, who was really tall, with long black hair, glared at him with blue eyes. Madilen looked almost exactly like him, but she was average height, and had brown eyes. “He’s the savage. Not me. He’s just jealous because he’s not totally human. But I love it. I get to fly. And hunt.” Mica tried to slap her, but she caught his arm and squeezed. “Who are you? Are you really human?” She grabbed his hand and studied it. “Can humans actually shape-shift? And do you really have eyelids? Cause if you do…” Jeez, he thought. She’s a chatterbox. And like a five-year old.

She was examining him again, and Mica was working on a piece of wood. “Uh.” He shook Madilen off of him. “What are you two exactly?” He was really freaked out. “What are we? We are like nymphs, but we live here in the forest and keep the peace here.” She sounded like a hippie. “I’m nearly 3000 years old. And Mica, he’s nearly 6000.” Really old people.

It started to rain and thunder out. “Hmm. The reflecca didn’t tell me that we were going to have a storm.”

     “Reflecca?”

“Yeah. It’s a tiny microscopic insect that lives inside of nymphs. Particularly boys. But Mica’s too old, so reflecca lives in the things you call toilets. And your scientist call its children bacteria. They have insanely small brains.”

He knew she was talking about humans. “Sorry. I didn’t mean you,” she laughed. “You’re like a bridge. We cant interact with humans unless one is among us. Your mom was the one before you, but the Creasarians killed her. My condolences. They are the scum that killed her. They cause what you call hurricanes and tornadoes.” Someone walked in. It was a woman. Nymphaela Madilena Mcerat. How dare you tell such things to humans.” Madilen winced. “Hi Mom. Mica said that you wouldn’t be back until the month humans call September. Its just-“ she looked at Connor. “Its June.”

“What he said. And what I am telling him is the truth. Alian told us before she died. She knew about reflecca-“ “That is nonsense. Torromo, come on.” Madilen rolled her eyes and Connor looked at the entryway. “Is that-?”

“Yes. It’s Bigfoot. But he insists that his name is Torromo.” Bigfoot- Torromo- was large and had several folds of skin. Hair was growing inhumanely fast and kept shedding. He had sightless eyes, and swung his arm around to feel things. It accidently hit him in the face. He swore. “Sorry ‘bout that human.” Bigfoot talks?

Madilen grabbed his hand and led him outside to the rain. She didn’t seem to get wet. “Look. You have to go human. If you don’t leave now, Momma will somehow kill you.” She kissed him on the cheek and pushed him hard. His eyes were closed, because he was ten and didn’t like to be kissed by girls. When he opened his eyes, he was in front of his house.
