Chapter 3
A Password

Amy pressed on with Sam and he smiled as he whistled his tunes and merrily almost skipped down the road as happy as a merry schoolboy.
“So what’s Gontel like?” Amy asked.
“Well now you’ll see what it’s like when you get there. It is big and I’m sure you’ll like it there.” He answered.
Finally they stopped in front of a brick wall. Sam moved the vines out of his way so he could look at the wall better. “Ah!” he exclaimed and pulled out a wand.
He used it as a key though. The wand was a long, polished maple stick that he inserted into a small hole made in the bricks. A glowing light appeared at the edges of what would soon become a door.
“Oh, wow.”
Sam smiled at her expression, a one between disbelieve and excitement. Opening the door he let her pass into a large room full of people witches and wizards.
Amy’s face broke into a wide smile as she looked around her.
“Okay, Amy why not start at the book shop. Let’s do the hardest stuff first.” He said.
The room wasn’t really a room more like a giant house filled with shops and booths. People scuttled about; there were babies, adults, teens, kids, and toddlers. One of them ran into Amy. “Oops! Sorry.” The boy said.
“S’okay.” She replied as he ran off.
“Cute little kid.” Sam said coming up behind her, “Now let’s go get some books.”
“Kay.”
They made their way through the crowd to the bookshop. This was not as crowded as some other shops maybe because it seemed to be the most boring section in the entire place.
“Okay now we need to find these books.” Sam waved his hand in a motion and a piece of paper appeared between two of his fingers. “Now you may brows for the books on this list and look at other things if you feel like it. I’ll be here in the bookshop looking for some of the things I need to start a new year of teaching. Lord with all the new discoveries we made this summer I’m surprised we don’t have thirteen books for the same level and subject.” He handed Amy the piece of paper and went off to find some of his new schooling books.
She looked at the paper and read the list of books needed to be found;
The Stars and the Planets: By: Janet Hailstone; The Heart of the Magic By: Kathrynne Wishbun; Light and Dark By Thlia Momken.
And a numerous other books by the same authors. Amy looked at the rows of book shelves and the handful of people looking at them. Amy made her way through the shelves looking for the first book on the list.
She collected the first six books in about ten minuets she had no consept of time, she didn’t have a cell phone or watch. She ran into a girl with a large stack of books.
“Oops.” Amy said, “Sorry about that I should have watched where I was going.”
“S’okay. You probably couldn’t see over those books.” The girl commented.
Amy laughed, “You know what?”
“No what?” the girl asked.
“You’re probably right.”
The girl smiled and started to pick up some of the fallen books.
“Here let me help you.” Amy offered, “I’m Amerisa.”
“Bell.” She answered. “Amaryllis do you have a nick-name?’
“It’s Amerisa. And yeah, kinda hard name, Amy for short.”
“Okay, Amy. That’s allot easier for me. I don’t really remember large names. Not just people names, but things as well like chrysanthemums, that took me just about two years!” Bell replied.
“Yeah. Well big things are relatively easily memorized by me.” Amy said.
“So I noticed.” Bell remarked.
Amy smiled. They sorted out whose books were whose.
“Do you think there is an easier way to carry these books?” Bell complained. Her arms did look a little strained. Now they had all there books they were loaded and some of the books tested there strength like Persephone’s Guide to How to Control the Darkness in YOU, that had almost eight-hundred sixty-nine pages.
“Dunno.” Amy answered. “Maybe we can ask somebody?”
“Who are you with?” Bell asked, “You couldn’t have come here on your own.”
“I came here with Sam Melcony. What about you?” Amy replied.
“Mom and Dad. They were so totally excited when they found out I was offered to go to Gontel. Really I didn’t tell them ‘till yesterday. Thought it was a prank.” Bell shrugged.
“That’s exciting because I’m going to Gontel too!” exclaimed Amy.
“No way!” Bell cried.
“Where do you live maybe we can go to the airport together.” Amy suggested.
“That would be great. I live in town just a couple blocks down from here. There’s a bus stop where we can meet, that is if you don’t live to far.” Bell explained.
“Naw. Once I get in a car it’s only a thirty minute drive. And trust me I have no intention of walking here again.” Amy replied.
“Well I guess I’ll be seeing ya got to drop these off by Mom because she has the money.” And she went away.
Amy looked around a bit for Sam Melcony, once she saw him she walked up.
“You have what you need? Good, now you need to give the cashier you’re password and he will take the money out of your account.”
“What are you talking about?” Amy asked.
“Oh, you never were told?” Sam asked.
“Well I only found out this stuff two days ago and my mother doesn’t even know about this so how am I supposed to know this kind of stuff. A password for what books that is not gonna happen ‘cause I don’t know anything.”
“Oh this does show up as a problem doesn’t it. I must say, didn’t you’re mother ever think something might happen?” Sam asked.
“Well she did start to be a little more cautious about where she took me over the last year. She never let me go anywhere without supervision. Even the movies right by our house. I dunno maybe she just thought I’d get into some kind a trouble.” Amy shrugged.
“I thought so. You’re mother’s smart magical creatures could sense you out from all over. Dragons, unicorns, and all the things like that. You could have been in danger. But with her there you were less likely to be selected out. But why wouldn’t she tell you the password?”
He sat there and paced a moment. Amy raised an eyebrow as he continued to blabber on about things she didn’t know if she was supposed to be concerned about.
“I got it!” he exclaimed, “She did tell you but not directly. Did she ever give you a hint of anything that was important? The name of your father maybe or a certain street name?”
“The name of my father? Why yes I believe she did tell me never to forget that. I thought it was because he was my father it’s only what a good child would do. It was something like Cameron or Kent.”
“Collin?” Sam asked.
“Yes! That’s it Collin Herman Wrights!” Amy replied. “If you knew him than why did you ask?”
“I never knew his full name.” he replied.
Amy shrugged.
They walked up to the cash register.
“And who might this young witch be.” The cashier asked in a babyish voice.
“Amerisa Demetra Wrights.” Replied Amy.
“Oh, Amerisa. I was hoping you’d come soon. We’ve had your account open for twelve years we were just about to close it. If you can prove you really are Miss. Wrights then we’ll keep the account open.”
“The password? It’s Collin Herman Wrights.” She replied as a matter of factly.
“Yep. That’s right now lemme just see these here books and then you’ll be on your way.” The perky woman said.
Amy let her. The books were handed to her in a basket.
Amy looked at the girl in confusion.
“I expect you have allot more shopping to do.”
