Asked Her What I Couldn't Tell

by Kavalnain

It was silent between my
Mother and I,
While she watched me eat
My lunch.
She was tired,
And so was I,
But we enjoyed each other’s
Company.

To break the silence,
I asked her a question,
One that bothered my
Mind, heart, and soul.
I asked her,
“What would you do
If you fell so in love,
And he broke your heart?”

She took time to think
A moment,
And then answered clearly,
That she would still love him
And try to gain his love back.
I was so glad that she hadn’t
Asked why
I wanted to know.

I wish I could tell her,
And let my burdens go.
You thought that by leaving me,
Everything would be better
For the both of us.
You’re wrong.
Everything is better
For you.

I asked my mother in the car today,
More questions about broken love
And broken hearts.
I didn’t tell her,
I couldn’t
And I never will,
That you broke mine
And you won’t come back.
