KidPub's Never Ending Story

In Gateway Mansion there are many, many doors. Some lead to great and at the same time terrifying adventures. While others simply lead to darkness and storage spaces. Nevertheless, two young siblings, Gary & Liz, inhabiting Gateway Mansion never know what is around the next corner. Because, in such a topsy, turvy place, your next move, your next breath, could be your last.

Now, with the help of young authors all around the world, the chronicles of their adventures are being revealed. You, too, can take part in piecing together their Never Ending Story.
(thanks to Kiowa~*, Kati, Lauren, Gabby and others for that great introduction!)

The Story So Far...

The chimera dashed away, giving up on its latest catch. "Ah, now that we're alone, i'd like to introduce you to my 'friends'" said the wizard menacingly. Almost immediately a group of goblins and werewolves emerged from the shadows, ready to follow the deceptive wizard's evil commands...
--Shayok

"It's just one thing after another," whispered Gary angrily. Both of the children sprinted away from th wizard who was now was surrounded by darkness
--Cassandra

"You cannot escape me......" The eerie voice taunted. Then, suddenly a figure of light rushed at them. "Get out of here children!" A paladin warrior rushed to their aid carrying the sword of light.
--Calla

"I wouldn't be surprised if he was villainous too," Gary whispered to Liz. "No, I don't think so. Look at how many of the wizard's troops fall to his blade. If he was trying to deceive us he wouldn't fight with such passion," Liz replied.
--Shayok

"Quick then, he pointed over here," Gary couldn't be bothered to whisper anymore, the fighting going on behind them was excruciatingly loud, filled with screams of horror and cries of dying goblins and werewolfs.
--Kanga

In front of them were two doors. A green and a blue. "Which one?" asked Liz, aggitated. "I dunno," relpied Gary, "how about...
--Kanga

"We spilt?"
--Calla

"Well, i'm not sure..." sighed Liz, frightened. "In all those movies and stories whoever split up ended up being a bad thing. And they were picked off one by one." They both shivered. "They are just stories anyway," snapped Gary, trying to hide how scared he was.
--Kanga

"th-thats true" Liz said in a most frightening voice "ok you take blue and i'll take green. "ok" Gary agreed "see you on the other side, good luck"
--hannah

"Let's count to three," 1. 2. 3. They both took a breath and walked through each door.
--Kanga

AS Gary opened the door, he took his first step...onto air! He fell into a pit of moving colors and illusions. There was a battered sign, saying 'The Town of Nonexistence(I don't know, put something better. I can't think of a good one)' Gary walked further into the pit, dreading the horrors that might await him...
--Shayok

Liz walked into a ghost town "Hell's Gate, You're welcome 'to leave'". Read a gory sign. "Oh, s***." Liz Looked at the zombie infested town...
--Calla

Gary walked into a drab town of gray buildings and cobbled stone roads. An air of sadness and desolation hung in the air. Only the sound of the blowing wind broke the silence. Not a soul was there, and Gary's footsteps sounded like great bells in a church.(Listen to the Davy Jones music box melody from Pirates of the Caribbean while reading. Gives good effect!)
--Shayok

"Hello! Anyone? Liz!?" Gary called out, desperate to talk to someone. It was starting to get lonely and a little creepy.
--Kanga

Shuddering, he continued onward. It appeared to be an entirely deserted town. Even so, he had the petrifying feeling that he was being watched. A slight breeze swept the musty air into his face; spluttering, he longed for the clean, quenching air of his own world. Gary continued forward, to what seemed to be his doom, hoping vainly that Liz would simply materialize before him, and this dreary, empty town would melt away, and he would find himself on the familiar jet-black floor of his own beloved home. A sixth sense warned him vaguely to remain silent. If there really was a creature watching him, it wasn't a friendly one, and he certainly didn't want to pique its interest, especially since he supplied a good deal of edible flesh. Suddenly, Gary felt a piercing pain in his heel; he had stepped directly on a shard of jagged glass. Blood trickled down his foot, crimson and repugnant. He cried out sharply, and realized, a second too late, that making a noise had been a major mistake.
--Marie Lynn

Suddenly there was a low growl, coming from the shadow of a building. Gary backed away slowly, hurridly glancing around, looking for a way to escape, or to hide. Out of the darkness came a...
--Kanga

Basilisk. Gary quickly clamped his eyes shut. One look could kill him. One bite would cause a slow painful death.
--Calla

He could hear the horrible creature slithering towards him, hissing in what sounded like another language, altough he doubted a basilisk would be able to speak. He had to run. And yet he couldn't look. What the heck was he supposed to do? A large, hungry noise escaped from the creature's tougue. With a spur of the moment desiceon, Gary darted away, running blindly, feeling blood flowing from his foot. Pain shot up his leg every time he took a step, making him cringe, and yet he ran, unable to see, hardly able to think. And then he stopped.
--Zoe

Someones hand had grabbed onto his shoulder and he was being pulled over to the side. Gary, still to afraid to open his eyes, let himself be dragged along by the stranger. "I mean, it can't be worse than a basilisk, can it?" He thought.
--Kanga

Suddenly, his feet were off the ground. It felt as if he was standing on air. But he was moving, up, and fast. Shock flooding through him, he opened his eyes and let out a shrill shriek. He was in the air, going up, and blood from his foot was flowing down, down, falling through the sky until he couldn't see them. What the #%&# was going on? He let out another scream and then looked up. He was being held by a young woman, her honey-colored hair whipping through the air. She wore a white blouse and tan-colored pants that were tight against her legs. She looked at him with striking blue eyes, and he could see that she had wings spread at her back, sparkling white wings. She was flying. Realizing his mouth was open, Gary closed it and wondered if she was an angel. It seemed she was. She was beautiful, and she had wings. "I am Luella," she whispered to him in a strong voice, "And I promise not to hurt you."
--Zoe

Meanwhile, Liz was meandering about in Hells gate. A zombie or two looked at her hungrily and she began to feel more than slightly uneasy...
--Calla

She walked around, nervoulsy glancing in every direction, the same as Gary. All of a sudden, off to her left, she heard a snarl. Liz twisted around and faced in the direction of the sound. Staring at her was the hugest, meanest looking zombie she had seen so far. His eyes her bloodshot with hunger and he growled again, to show Liz that it was him who had snarled. Not that she needed a hint. Frozen with terror, Liz just stood there while the zombie creeped up on her. It took all of it's strength not to jump up on her and kill her then, but the zombie wanted to kill her slowly and steadily, to savour the taste.
--Kanga

"Leave her, Gilgoross" said an ominous voice from behind them. The zombie called Gilgoross grumbled angrily, but crept away. Liz looked up to see a humanoid shape clad head to toe in a black robe. THe hood did not betray its gender, and the thing gripped a stick of twisted, black wood. She looked closely at the hands to discover that it was bare bone...
--Shayok

This apparently black robed skeleton, realising that Liz had seen it's hands, slowly pushed back it's hood and it came off. There in front of her was a skeleton with bones as white as snow. It looked down at her and mysteriously said in a kind of voice so strange you couldn't deferentiate it from a woman or man, "Don't worry. Gilgoross is in a bad mood. My name's Drake," quickly adding as Drake could see Liz and Gary were scared, "I won't hurt you. I'm here to help you."
--Grace

(Note: Ummmm, Grace, Gary isn't there.)
--Zoe

Liz looked at him sceptically. "Mhmm" She mumbeled in a unbeleiving tone.
--Calla

Ignoring her, the skelaton snapped it's bony fingers, causing a noise like a gun fireing, or leaves crunching, so different yet so alike. The skelaton, Liz refused to call him any name, believing it wrong that things like this shouldn't be called anything except 'freak', turned around. "Follow me if you want to live, child." Behind her, a hoard of strange and undead creatures, zombies mostly, took a formation and began to walk.
--Zoe

Liz walked along next to Drake, never taking his eye off him. He seemed innocent enough, for a skeleton. She heard a low growling from her other side. Liz turned around to be facing Gilgoross' ugly head."You will be mine someday, human," he said, spitting, and then moving away, leaving a shivering Liz behind.
--Shayok

The zombies pushed passed her, mumbling an occaisional, "Hehe." "Blerg" or "Muhha". Looking at them as a princess would glance at a cockroach, Liz took off trying to find her brother. "GARY!!!!!!!!!!!!"
--Calla

*** (gary's POV) "GARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" a voice from far away yelled. Gary shivered, hearing somewhere deep in his mind, Liz calling him. He looked around frantically, hoping that she might be somewhere around, but knowing he was wasting his time. The only thing that was surrounding him was clouds. The flying girl, Luella, had been carying him in the air for at least an hour. Or that's how long it felt to Gary. He was desperate to find his sister and had been pleaing to the winged girl to help him, but it seems she was deaf to his crys and kept on flying, though she hadn't broken her promise of not hurting him. Yet. Suddenly Gary felt a woosh of air and his stomach was in his throat. They were decending rapidly, but he didn't let himself cry out. "It is going to be a rough landing. Be prepared." It was the second time since their meeting, that Luella had talked to Gary, and he took the chance to ask her the question for the hundredth time, even though he could hardly breath. "Can you help me find my sister?"
--Kanga

She ignored him again, and suddenly there was a feeling of crashing as Gary's spine twisted and he crumpled to the ground at the impact of hitting the ground. Struggling for breath, he cried out, writhing in pain. "I'm sorry, I've forgotten how weak humans are," said Luella. He shook his head. "Please, I just want to find my sister. Her name's Liz. Where is she?" "I don't know. But I'll help you. Sleep, now." Gary didn't want to. He wanted to find Liz. But he was tired, and he ached, and his spine tingled in pain. His legs felt like jello. His mind was weak. And so he sunk into an uneasy sleep.
--Zoe

"Who are you?" asked Liz to Drake, for she had started to trust him. "I was once a wizard in training. It was perfectly normal until the at girl with the angel wings came. She killed my master and sent me to Hell, leaving me to rot and turn into this. We practiced Shadow Magick, not the Dark Arts! The girl did not have to kill him! He was like a father to me." Drake trailed off, Liz thinking about what she had heard. "So...you are a shadow wizard?" asked Liz dubiously. "Yes. I am." "Then how come you are a good person?" "You are confused with the Dark Arts and Shadow Magick. The Dark Arts is a magic that is fuelled by hate and paracticed by the devil. Shadow Magick is an art that draws power from night and the moon. It is largely misunderstood, and now, because of the cinfusion between the two, we must operate in silence. I have learned a thing or two from the Dark Arts, which is why these zombies follow me and why I am still alive in Hell."
--Shayok

Liz shuddered "so this is hell" she asked Drake looked at her strangley "Yes" he said "oh" Liz replied.
--Lara-May

Then Liz asked "Will I be here forever?" "Oh no" Drake replied strangley. Out of the blue a flaming torch appeard and Drake erruppted into flames. In the same instant all the Zombies rushed at Liz She screamed in terror and closed her eyes. All went quiet. Liz decided it would be safe enough to open her eyes, when she did she found herself in a dark room. Knowing that her eyes would adjust eventuly she waited. Slowly she started to see the colors blue and green. "The Doors" she screamed! not a moment after she heard a giggle then a laugh then more giggles. She looked behind her and saw her dog. She rubbed her eyes and the dog dissapeared "Nooooooooooo" she screamed. then the dog reappered and barked at a new color joining the other colored doors. The new door appeared to be an acwerd shade of pink. As she watched the doors the Green one started to shrink and disapear then before...
--Lara-May

She could open the blue door and run in it also shrunk and disapeared. "Oh well" she shrugged. Then Asuming that her day could not get any worse she opend up the pink door. She was met by an extravegant blast of pink light...
--Lara-May

Rubbing his eyes, Gary's yawned and sat up. "Liz?" He called, sleepily. Gary suddenly remembered all that had happened in the past day. Or two days. Maybe even a week. He couldn't tell the time in this weird place. Luella was still with him, sitting quietly by warm fire. "Please help me find my sister!" He almost yelled at her. She had wings and probably other powers that could really help him in his search, but she wont even talk to him! Unexpectedly she answered him. "Not yet. I cannot sense where she is. That means she is in the shadow realm. Or hell, as you call it." Gary's eye's widened. "Hell!?"
--Kanga

Despite his still-drowsy state, Gary leapt up. "She's in hell?!? My sister's in hell? But that means she died! Jeez, I always told Mum that was where she was going..." "--She's not dead!" Luella said, "She just somehow ended up in hell. Don't ask me, I don't know." Defeated, Gary sighed. "If I ever get back home, Mum's going to kill me..." "You will get back home," Luella promised, "And we will find your sister. But before that, we must see Usa."
--Zoe

"Who? Why do we need to see her! We need to help Liz! Who you just told me ws in hell! Maybe you don't know what that means but it's bad!" Gary screamed at her.
--Kanga

(Back to Liz) Temporarly blinded by the light, Liz had the strange sensation that she was floating. She tried to turn her head but she was unable because volts of electricity were shooting through her arms, left leg and head. Poor Liz was suspended in air only able to move her right leg. Straight A student that she was Liz soon figured out that she was held by pink lazors. She wondered "why pink?".
--Lara-May

Meanwhile, Luella had fineally started to talk again... "Luella what do you mean my sister is in hell?" "Well she's not in hell anymore. She's in Oh my she's. Come on Gary lets go." "where are we going." "we're going to Usa" "Who's Usa?" but Luella had stopped talking again. She picked Gary up and off the flew up and up and up till it was hard to breathe. Then Luella turned a little to the left and flew on and on and on through the night. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The next morning Gary awoke to find himself in a cave. On a bed of leaves. Looking around he saw a tunnel leading off the back of the cave. And a tunnel leading into broad daylight. After he got his bearing's Gary started to feel a gnawing hunger. So he decided the quickest way to food was to find Luella 'cause she has to eat right? He thought. "Luella" He called, "Yes?" Luella replied. 'Oh there you are" 'Are you hungry Gary" Luella asked< "Yes" Gary replied "well here is some fruit" " thanks". Luella just smiled at him then she said "your welcome". Gary took the fruit it looked like an apple but tasted like a peach...
--Lara-May

Meanwhile..... Liz was as frustrated as possible. The little lights were starting to get more than annoying. Also, she had developed a strong distaste for pink.
--Calla

After Gary had eaten the fruit Luella finally started to explain where they were going. " Gary I am now allowed to explain everything. We are at the entrance to Arkabit where Usa is. But let me start from the begining... Usa and Maxurmin were standing at the front of the asile facing the rows of people sitting. Usa's wedding dress had a long trail held up by four flower girls. Maxurmin was holding Usa's hand, and they were both watching the ring bearer walking up to them... A year later Usa was sitting in one of the comfortable couches in her and Maxurmin's lounge. Waiting for Maxurmin to arive home from work, He had phoned to tell her that he had something important to tell her. Just then she heard their son's wailing cry sighing she went to fetch the baby. Maxurmin pulled up into the driveway of his and Usa's house, he switched off the car but didn't open the door. His thoughts were racing. How could he tell his wife that he practiced shadow magic she would never understand. Thinking about it another problem was araised his master The wizard Schen had made him promise that he would get to name their son and that the name he had chosen was Drake. Oh well Maxurmin decided that he better go in. "Usa" He called when he reached the lounge, "yes" "where are you" "with the baby". He then heard sounds of her walking down the stairs. "Hi" she said when she reached the lounge "Hi" He replied. She was carrying the baby, and now she took a seat in one of the chairs, he took the one facing her. "Yes?" she asked "Well first" he started "I think we need to name our son" "ok" "I think his name should be Drake" "Drake, hmmmmm why Drake" "Uh ok let me tell you this. You know my friend Schen?" "Yes" "well what do you think of him. Do you like him?" "well he's okay I guess. Some times he gets a little weird." "Oh well lets just say that he said that we need to name the baby, Drake. Uh or rather that I need to name the baby Drake." " Uh why do you or him need to name the baby Drake?" "Well because Schen is my boss." "WHAT! what do you mean he's your boss Mr. Sgifried is." "Ahhh well you see I do't work for him I actully work for Schen. Or rather practice under him, You see um I'm uhh well UH okay I practice shadow Magic." for a few seconds Usa was quiet thinking then with out a word she stood up and threw gritted teeth said " What is shadow magic. Actully Don't tell me. I'm leaveing." "No no Usa No please" " No thats it I'm leaving. I put up with moving everywhere. and with your "friend" Schem or whatever. But this is it I will not live with someone who play's with dangerous thing's not with a child." " Please Usa just one thing" "what is it" " Name the boy Drake" Usa was taken by surprize. Then looking into her husbands eyes she saw something she had never seen there before , Fear. She thought it out " Ok his name is Drake" "Thank-you thank-you thank-you" Maxurmin said. Suddenly there was a Crashing sound then Schen walked in. He was wearing a long dark robe, and when he saw the baby His eyes lit up meanly and he cackeld. " Thank-you Usa. I always wanted a son. and you. Maxurmin I tricked you no shadow arts at all. Instead you've been playing with nothing I just needed you to be one my side." Then without another word he pointed one lone bony finger an the floor and imediatly a hole appeared. Usa felt herself sliding towards the hole " AHHHHHHHHH" she screamed then she felt her self fall into the hole. Then she realized that she was holding Drake still. Then he was torn from her ars and pulled upout of the hole. Maxurmin watched in horror as Usa slid into the hole. He heard her Sream. Then He saw Schen walk towards Drake. Finally Schen thought I have him. Now with my new aprentice I will rule the world.
--Lara-May

(lara-may--whoa pretty long lol) LizPOV: All of a sudden, out of no where came a floating pink....
--Kanga

Cape. a big cape. a huge cape. A cape so large that it could cover the whole world it seemed. Unexpectedly, the cape flew toward Liz with tremendous speed. It rapped itself around liz causing her to scream in fright.Although struggling to breath, Liz was thankful that the shocking had stopped. One thing she noticed was the cape was quite thick. This made it very dark. "Ah," she said. "At least i dont have to see any more of that ugly pink" of which Liz had never been fond of. After a long time the cape began to EVER so slowly untagle its grasp around her. When she had begun to properly breathe again, she took in a huge gulp of a peutred smell. "What is that?"
--Lara-May

She hoped desperately that she wasn't back in hell with the zombies. It smelt terrible in there.
--Kanga

"GARY! LIZ! WHERE ARE YOU!" Azriel called. She knew they had came to this creepy house with all the doors. Where were they?
--Kanga

She kept searching for them but they were not found. All she could hope was that they were fine. How she longed to be back home in the saftey and comfort of her house.
--Sarah

Ah, home, she thought. The sweet smell of fish.
--Tigerlily

Liz POV. Like...dead rotting fish. Yuck.
--Kanga

I miss the old NES...
